Our Vision: A World Fit for Children
The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children is a day of solidarity among all who share the vision of a world that allows children to grow up in safe, healthy and caring communities. This international movement engages people of religion and goodwill to safeguard the inviolable dignity of children and promote their well-being.
Every year, the movement reaffirms its mission on Universal Children’s Day – 20 November – which is also the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It is our vision that on 20 November all over the world in communities and places of worship, prayer services will be accompanied by measurable actions for the survival, development and protection of children.
The opportunity is unique for people of goodwill from all religious and secular backgrounds to act upon their duty to protect children. We can collaborate on common actions in many ways. One major approach is to achieve internationally agreed-upon goals for children such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Our vision is that local communities will organize and take action to improve the lives of the young – and by extension, their families and society.
How shall we harness global solidarity and build a brighter future for children? That is our vision, challenge, and inspiration.
