The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children was launched at Arigatou International’s Global Network of Religions for Children Forum in Hiroshima in May 2008.

“As people of different faiths and religious traditions, we propose that a “World Day of Prayer and Action for Children” be held every year on November 20th, Universal Children’s Day. We therefore call on people of all of the world’s religious and spiritual traditions to join as we express our gratefulness for children and re- dedicate ourselves to children on this day and each year. Together with relevant government, non- governmental and community-based organizations and other stakeholders, we will take action with and for children. The call to pray, meditate, worship and contemplate is at the heart and soul of all religious and spiritual traditions. We recognize that with every prayer comes a new commitment to action.”

The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children is an international movement of religious leaders and faith-based organizations, civil society, government leaders, inter-governmental organizations, and individuals who care for children.

The World Day of Prayer and Action -- held on Universal Children’s Day -- engages people of faith and goodwill to offer their prayers and act jointly for children in their own communities.

The World Day of Prayer and Action is an initiative supported by Arigatou International and guided by an International Planning Committee. It has a small Secretariat in New York to coordinate the work in the field.
