«DREAMING A WORLD WITHOUT VIOLENCE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE!»

Celebrating the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children

Press Release 15. 11. 2011

The 20 of November 2011 a group of young people and children from various religious communities coming from different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will meet in a workshop to reflect on the importance of mutual respect and understanding in their life together and also to express solidarity with the many children that experience violence at school, in their homes and in society.

This workshop is part of the celebrations of the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children that  takes place the 20 of November, anniversary of the Convention for the Rights of the Child. Last year this Day was celebrated in more than 45 countries with the active participation of all Religious Communities, NGOs working with children, UNICEF and many people of good will committed with the dignity of children everywhere.

The main theme for this year is “Stop Violence against Children”. Studies done by UNICEF and other UN bodies demonstrate that violence is one of the most critical problems that children face in all countries and they can play an important role in finding solutions.

The agenda of the workshop includes work on real life stories to reflect on the violence that affect children including violence among themselves. Four experts will share their views about violence against children in a panel and have dialogue with the participants. Through the activities children and young people will be encouraged to look for solution. On Saturday 20 of November at 17.00 there will be a PEACE WALK in the city of Sarajevo where children and young people will reject violence and share their dreams for a better world for children.

This Peace Walk will start at the site of the Jews Community, Hamdije Kresevljakovica 59, Sarajevo. Children, youth, religious people and people of good will are invited to joint in this walking.
